Breed Specific Legislation A Hot Topic

The Trempealeau Board of Supervisors will vote tonight on whether nurture — or lack thereof — is more important than nature when it comes to dogs.

A county committee last month recommended removing breed-specific language from the county’s dangerous-dog ordinance that passed last year, which characterizes several breeds of dogs — including Dobermans, Rottweilers and some terriers — as dangerous.

The committee agreed to revisit the ordinance after it was presented with information suggesting that a dog’s environment and upbringing is more important than the aggressiveness associated with its breed.
