The Dandie Dinmont Terrier is one of the UK’s very rarest breed of dog, with just 81 being born in 2004 and a tiny breeding population, not just in the UK but worldwide. The breed is now officially recognised by The Kennel Club as being a “Vulnerable Breed”.
Whilst the Dandie Dinmont Terrier was never a “popular” breed in the mainstream sense, numbers are now so low that real concern is being expressed internationally about the breed’s long term viability and ultimate survival. Publicity is vital to the breed's very survival.
I didn’t realize this breed was in danger of extinction. Hey, breed clubs… start promoting your breed!!!
