An Unfortunate Accident, Indeed

A 10-year-old San Antonio girl has died after being attacked by her neighbor's dog. Amber Jones was attacked while trying to help the animal after it had gotten its collar caught on a chain link fence.

The shame of all of this is that not only was the child killed, the dog will be killed, too. The dog did what animals do when terrified, they protect themselves. This dog should not be put down. It was an accident. This was not an indication of a vicious dog.

I hear what you are saying, it's horrible when they put dogs down unnecessarily, such a shame when any life has to be taken really.
I have a blog too and offers some free tips on behaviour training, if you want to exchange links let me know and I would be happy to link to you from my site dog behaviour training

Mmm. I know the girl was 10 and all, but if she "knew" the dog, why would it bite her? Even dogs who are really scared won't normally bite their mom or dad. And if she didn't know the dog that well, where were her parents?
I know accidents happen, but then again, I also don't believe in chaining dogs. I had a great Dane that almost stangled himself the one time I ever teathered him. It would have been my fault if he died. (Or was that an accident too?) Grr. Poor pup.
